Walk no. 9: Dee Why Beach to Dee Why Head: 4 March 2012

Jenny at Headland Park, at the southern end of Dee Why Beach
After all the sand and surf of the last walk, this walk was a 'cliff topper' - suited Ryan fine - no sand in his crocs, no sun beating down relentlessly (in his opinion), and lots of steps to speed up and down - not so good for me.

We started at the south end of Dee Why beach and pretty much walked the cliff top from there to Dee Why Head. Photos above show how steep and close to the cliff edge we were, and photos below show how far down it was.......
Of course, it didn't faze Ryan.

Discovered that it's not a good idea to let Ryan out of my sight when travelling through trees, I looked away, (well, took a photo), looked back and he was gone, assumed that he'd taken off ahead of me so I took off in pursuit - a long.............. 10 to 15 minutes later, I HEARD Ryan calling from where I'd last left him (stupid me) (and thanks goodness he has such a good set of lungs!). His response, once he/we'd calmed down was to tell me that I should bring other people walking with me, not him (and managed to make me feel pretty irresponsible!)

Ryan at yet another sea pool, this one is just south of Dee Why Head (and I think that that's Manley in the background)

After that we had a peaceful walk back to the bus stop along Curl Curl Lagoon, and managed to find an ice-cream shop along to way to calm our nerves.

What I learned from this walk?? I should put a tracking device in Ryan's bag!

No. 8 of my big beach walk: Narrabeen to South Dee Why Beach: 11 Jan 2012

Mei and me still looking fresh and a bit windblown at the start of the walk.
I had a 'guest walker' today, my sister-in-law Mei. She's the one with the big hair! We had a great walk from the southern end of Narrabeen beach, ploughing along though the sandy beaches, only hitting rocky paths half way along. Mei had worn walking shoes in preparation for cliff top walking, but we only got a little of that once we reached Long Reef Point.
Seagulls enjoying the sun and at the wind, looking south towards Long Reef Point
We discovered Long Reef Point, Long Reef Golf Club as well as the golf coffee stop.
Below is a selection of piccies from around Long Reef Point.

Further south, Long Reef beach is separated from Dee Why Beach by Dee Why Lagoon. Getting from one beach to the next involved getting our feet (and our bums) wet! Luckily we didn't have to swim, fortunately Mei was up for a wade, wet shorts and all!
Jenny testing the waters of the outlet - it got deeper and the current stronger, but the little kids on their floaties managed to cross, so we had to too.
Then it was on to our lunch stop - fish and chips of course - a walk past the obligatory sea pool - well used on this gorgeous sunny day, and home.
Highlights: it was great walking with Mei on such a gorgeous day, she was up for anything, never ever asking 'are we there yet'; we managed to both talk non stop the whole way as well as doing the longest walk so far, who knows how long but it looks pretty long on my map; and does anyone know what this rusty pole on Dee Why Beach is for (please don't say sewage outlet!!).
